In the Picinguaba village (located in the Serra do Mar State Park), apart from entering in direct contact with the abundant nature of the Atlantic forest, visitors can also get to a know a bit of Ubatuba’s history, which is directly linked to the history of Brazil itself.

The Flour House, located at Quilombo da Fazenda, was as the turn of the 20th century a sugar and alcohol mill which was abandoned. In the 1950s, the giant water wheel was put to use as a flour mill.In 1986 the State Park totally recuperated the land and today the Flour House is one of the main historical attractions of Ubatuba.

During a visit to the Flour House, visitors still have the opportunity to get to know the Quilombo da Fazenda, experiment traditional cooking prepared by residents, purchase handicrafts and even hear stories todl by “Seu Zé Pedro”, a descendant of slaves and leader of the community.

Ubatuba still has three other Quilombo communities, those of Caçandoca, Sertão de Itamambuca and Camburi.
